Clinical Studies on Myocardial Infarction

Abstract
43 cases of myocardial infarction admitted at the St. Benedict Hospital from Jan. 1971 to Dec. 31, 1976 were studied and the results were summarized as follows,
1. Acute myocardial infarction was present in 32 cases and old myocardial infarction was present in 11 cases of 43 cases. The ratio between male and female was 1.9: 1, the incidence was most common in the seventh decade (30.2%), the nexts in order of frequency were in sixth decade and eighth decade, which were in 79. 1% of all myocardial infarction.
2. The main symtoms were substernal pain (53.1 %), dyspnea (46.9%) and radiating pain (31.2%). The most frequent precipitating cause was physical exertion .(21.9%), the nexts in order of frequency were in bed .and at rest, emotional stress.
3. The most common preceding disease was hypertention (31.2%), the nexts in order of fregency were angina pectoris, diabetes mellitus and chronic lung diseases.
4. The ratio between anterior and posterior wall infarction was 2.5: 1 on EKG, the most common arrhythmia was ventricular premature beat, the nexts ixt order of frequency were atrial fibrillation or filuter, atrial premature beat and ventricular tachycardia.
5. In laboratory findings, there were leukocytosis in 53.3%, increased SGOT in 68%, increased cholesterol levels above 200mg% in 50%, increased LDH levels above 500 units in 77.8%.
6. The most common complication was arrhythmia,, in 37.5% the nexts were congestive heart failure in ¢¥28% and shock in 6.3%. The mortality rate was 28..1% within 4 weeks, 3 of them died within 24 hours, 4 died within 24 hours to 1 week, 2 died within 1 week to 4 weeks.
